Getting ready photos are some of my favorite images from a wedding day. Capturing gorgeous getting ready photos before the ceremony is part of the overall story of your wedding day, and so when booking a wedding photographer, it is important to consider for your timeline.
Leading up to the wedding, most couples spend months planning everything from guest lists to the venue to wedding decor. And the actual wedding day itself can go by so quickly! That is why it can be so important to schedule time for getting ready photos. Not only do getting ready photos add to the story of the day, but it can also be a great way to capture details, as well as little moments such as your mother helping you put on earrings or your bridesmaids’ reactions to you in your gown.
As your wedding photographer, I will arrive early to make sure I have everything ready for the day. Next, I always like to photograph details such as your wedding attire, your rings, your wedding invitation suite, your flowers, your shoes, jewelry, perfume, etc.
After I have photographed all of the details, I like to capture candid moments of everyone talking, telling stories and jokes, and getting excited about the ceremony and reception!
Getting ready photos are also a great way to show off any matching socks, pajamas, or robes that you coordinated with your wedding party.
I also like to have the bride or groom stand in a nice spot for some “posed candids.” Essentially, I want to make sure that there is nothing in my shot that will be distracting (think garbage, clothing laying around, bags). However, you are still experiencing real emotions as you put on an earring or watch or hug a family member–it is just more elevated in the final image because I have placed you in a photographic spot.
Getting ready photos are also a great time for individual bride or groom portraits. This saves time during your first look or portrait time after the ceremony.
If you would like both yourself and your partner getting ready to be documented, I highly recommend including a second shooter in your wedding collection. This will help save on time, and you can rest assured that you will not miss any special moments leading up to the ceremony.
Just picture you and your partner looking at your wedding photos together and how special it will be to see what the other person experienced leading up to tying the knot. These will be memories you cherish forever.
